About Euph.Studio

Euph.Studio was created as a comprehensive platform to share a variety of content and educational experiences available from Mike Waddell.  An online lessons program is avliable to help students achieve their goals musically and professionally.  It involves musical instruction, but also teaching and guidance on recording, audio editing (Avid Pro Tools Certified), video editing, entrepreneurship, and more.  Euph.Studio also houses a podcast focusing on interviewing composers writing for euphonium, various recording projects, and more.

About Mike Waddell

Originally from Gaithersburg Maryland, Mike Waddell is a musician currently based in the Northeast Ohio area.  Mike is currently Visiting Instructor of Music at Hiram College (Since 2018) where he directs the Wind Ensemble, Pep Band, teaches Low Brass Lessons, Music Theory, Music Technology, Music Entrepreneurship, and more. In addition to his work at Hiram Mike has served on the faculty of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, the Columbus Brass Academy, SchoolOfBrass.com, the IET Festival, several K-12 Schools, and more.

In addition to his work as an educator, Mike is also an active performer. He is Currently Solo Euphonium with the Brass Band of the Western Reserve (since 2018).  He was  Solo Euphonium, Assistant Conductor, and Board of Directors President (501c3 non-profit) with the Central Ohio Brass Band (2014 - 2019 ),  Solo Euphonium with the Dublin Silver Band(2014-2016), and first baritone of the Georgia Brass Band (2012-2014). ​Mike is a founding member of the Atlas Tuba-Euphonium Quartet, and Keystone Tuba-Euphonium Quartet. Active in solo and chamber music performance, recent engagements have included residencies, masterclasses, and performances at Capital University, The University of Akron, Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Austin Peay State University, Murray State University, Western Kentucky University, University of Memphis , The International Tuba - Euphonium Conference , and the Burleson TX Tuba - Euphonium Project. 

He can be heard on multiple recordings of the Keystone Wind Ensemble on the Klavier Label,  album Versatile Southern Rock and Roll from Southern rock band Rye, and on the new album Chronicle by Zach Collins.  Mike has recently begun work on his debut solo Album Cascades, which will feature several new works for the euphonium and piano. 

Successful as a musical competitor Mike was winner of both the Johnstown Symphony Young Artist Competition and Indiana University of PA's concerto contest in 2010. He was also winner of Georgia State University's concerto competition in 2012.

As an educator Mike has had many successful students.  He has had multiple high school students make both the Ohio and Georgia All state-bands.  He has also had students be successful in local, regional, national, and international solo performance competitions. Many of Mike’s high school private students have gone on to study music on scholarship to various colleges and Universities around the country.  

As a performer and enthusiast of one of the least known instruments on earth, Mike has found it increasingly important to work with composers to write more music for the euphonium. To date, he has been involved with the commissioning of over 15 new works for the euphonium.

Mike received his Bachelor’s degree magna cum laude in Music Education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2012). He received his Masters of Music in Performance suma cum laude from Georgia State University (2014). Mike is currently pursuing his D.M.A. at West Virginia University where he studies with Carson McTeer and Hakeem Bilal. 

Mike's past teachers have been Adam Frey, Zach Collins, Christian Dickinson, Jack Stamp, and Mark Mitchell.
